What is Radiesse?

Radiesse, a treatment chair and counter in a clinical room at Naiva

Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler and collagen biostimulator made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth gel. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse provides immediate volume and structural support while encouraging the production of collagen and elastin over time.

Collagen and elastin keep skin firm, elastic and supported. As these proteins decline with age, facial contours may become less defined, and wrinkles and folds can become more noticeable. Radiesse addresses these changes through a combination of immediate correction and longer-term tissue remodeling.

Benefits of Radiesse

Depending on the formulation and treatment area, Radiesse can help:

  • Improve facial definition and contour.
  • Restore volume in areas affected by aging.
  • Smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
  • Improve jawline definition.
  • Rejuvenate the appearance of aging hands.
  • Stimulate collagen and elastin production.
  • Improve wrinkles in the décolleté, using an FDA-approved diluted technique.

How does Radiesse work?

Radiesse works in two complementary ways.

Immediate structural support. The gel provides volume and support to the treated area, with visible improvement shortly after treatment.

Collagen stimulation. Over time, the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres encourage the production of collagen and elastin in the surrounding tissue. As the carrier gel is absorbed, the newly formed tissue contributes to longer-lasting improvement.

What areas can Radiesse treat?

  • Facial wrinkles and folds
  • Jawline definition
  • Hand rejuvenation
  • Décolleté wrinkles

Your provider will determine the right formulation and technique for you.

Skin quality: diluted (hyperdilute) Radiesse

Not every sign of aging calls for more volume. For patients noticing declining firmness, crepey texture or changes in skin quality, Radiesse can be diluted with sterile saline and spread more broadly through the skin. The goal shifts from adding volume to encouraging collagen and elastin, so the skin looks firmer and smoother over the following weeks and months.

Think of traditional Radiesse as providing structure and contour, and diluted Radiesse as a skin-quality treatment. Radiesse is FDA-approved for décolleté wrinkles using this diluted technique. Use in some other areas or concentrations is off-label; your provider will tell you whether a treatment is on-label and whether it is right for you after evaluating your skin, anatomy and goals. Diluted Radiesse is not a substitute for surgery where there is significant loose or excess skin.

At Naiva, we select the treatment based on what your skin actually needs, not simply what can be injected.

Radiesse vs. traditional dermal fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers mainly restore volume with an injectable gel. Radiesse provides immediate support while also encouraging collagen and elastin production.

Another important difference: Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, the enzyme used to reverse hyaluronic acid fillers. That makes careful patient selection, injection technique and treatment planning especially important.

What to expect during treatment

Your assessment covers facial proportions, skin quality and areas of volume loss. During treatment, Radiesse is injected into carefully selected areas to achieve the planned correction. Appointments generally take about 30 to 60 minutes. Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising may occur. Your provider will explain aftercare and when to resume your normal activities.

How long does Radiesse last?

Results commonly last a year or more, depending on the treatment area, technique and individual response. Collagen stimulation develops over time, and the duration of improvement varies.

Ask your own question →
Does Radiesse work immediately?

In its standard form, yes. Radiesse provides immediate structural support, with further change as collagen production increases. Diluted Radiesse for skin quality works more gradually.

Is Radiesse better than hyaluronic acid filler?

Neither is universally better. Radiesse may suit certain structural goals, while hyaluronic acid fillers offer different properties and can be reversed.

Can Radiesse improve jawline definition?

Yes. Radiesse (+) is FDA-approved to improve moderate to severe loss of jawline contour in adults over 21.

Does Radiesse stimulate collagen?

Yes. Calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres encourage collagen and elastin production in the treated tissue.

Is diluted Radiesse the same as Sculptra®?

No. Both stimulate collagen, but they are different materials and behave differently in the tissue. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite; Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid.

Can diluted Radiesse tighten loose skin?

It may improve the appearance of mild laxity and firmness over time, but it does not remove excess skin and is not equivalent to surgical tightening.
