Every aesthetic consultation at Naiva includes a skincare assessment, and your clinician recommends products tailored to your skin. We offer top-of-the-line, medical-grade skincare from SkinCeuticals and Obagi.
How we choose what goes in your routine
The first question is whether your skin needs correcting or maintaining. Skin with established sun damage, melasma, stubborn hyperpigmentation or significant texture typically benefits from Obagi. The Obagi Nu-Derm system is built around prescription-strength ingredients such as hydroquinone and tretinoin, used in a specific sequence over roughly eighteen to twenty-four weeks, and it works by changing how the skin produces pigment and renews itself rather than by sitting on the surface. It is effective, and it demands supervision: there is an adjustment period of dryness and flaking, sun protection is non-negotiable, and it is prescribed and monitored by a clinician, not picked from a shelf. Obagi's other ranges, including its vitamin C serums, retinol formulations and sunscreens, are used on their own for patients who need targeted strength without the full system.
Skin that is functioning well and simply needs protecting, or that has finished a corrective phase, is usually built around SkinCeuticals, which supplies the antioxidant and corrective layer of the routine: C E Ferulic, H.A. Intensifier, P-TIOX, Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, A.G.E. Advanced Eye and Phyto Corrective Gel, chosen for what your skin needs rather than used all at once. Products are phased in over the first weeks, and results typically show within four to twelve weeks of daily use. The point is adherence. A four-step routine done every day outperforms a twelve-step routine done twice a week, and it is easier to adjust around treatments.
The third factor is what is scheduled in the clinic. Retinoids and acids are paused before peels, microneedling and laser, and resumed on a timeline we give you. Sunscreen discipline is tightened around laser and pigment work. A healing balm may be added for a week after resurfacing. The routine is not static; it moves with the plan, which is why we ask you to bring what you currently use to your first visit and why we check it at every follow-up.

Questions patients ask
Answers from the clinical team, in the order they tend to be asked. Anything specific to you is confirmed at consultation.
Ask your own question →What's the difference between medical-grade and store-bought skincare?
Medical-grade products contain active ingredients at concentrations and in formulations that require clinical oversight, and they are dispensed after assessment rather than chosen from a shelf. Some, like tretinoin and hydroquinone, are prescription only. The difference is less about luxury and more about strength, consistency and having someone responsible for how you use them.
Do I need Obagi or SkinCeuticals?
Many patients maintain well with a SkinCeuticals routine. Obagi is for correction: established pigmentation, sun damage or texture that maintenance products will not shift. Some patients use Obagi for a defined corrective phase and then move to SkinCeuticals to hold the result.
What's the difference between retinol and tretinoin?
Both are retinoids that speed skin renewal and support collagen. Retinol is available without a prescription, converts to the active form in the skin, and is gentler and slower. Tretinoin is the active form itself, prescription only, considerably stronger, and more likely to cause initial dryness. Which one you use depends on your skin, your goals and your tolerance.
Do I really need sunscreen every day in Miami?
Yes, without exception. UV exposure is the primary driver of pigmentation, texture and collagen loss, and it reverses the results of nearly every treatment we offer. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, applied every morning and reapplied when outdoors, is the single most effective product in any routine.
How long before I see results from a new routine?
Skin renews on a four to six week cycle, so give any change at least six weeks. Retinoids and pigment treatments typically show meaningful change at two to three months and continue improving. An adjustment period of mild dryness or flaking in the first weeks is normal and usually settles.
Can I buy products without a consultation?
Your routine is chosen at your assessment, with your treatment plan in view. Prescription-strength products, including the Obagi Nu-Derm system, always require an assessment first, because using them incorrectly can cause irritation or pigment changes rather than resolve them.
